Beautiful Scotland

Guides and Brownies help with the High Street Planters 2014

Dunbar In Bloom is a group of volunteers who have come together to try to brighten up empty corners and local streets.

We are all hobby gardeners driven by the love of watching plants grow and give pleasure to others. The group have the use of a large local greenhouse, where we can propagate our plants and prepare for each planting season. The planters on Dunbar High Street are managed by Dunbar In Bloom volunteers of all ages and abilities. We work with many other local organisations to keep improving all areas of the town – see the links on the right to just some of the groups who help us out.

In 2012 and 2013, the group entered the Royal Horticultural Society It’s Your Neighbourhood competition, where groups are judged and encouraged by the RHS to participate in community gardening activities. DiB have have received two certificates of achievement in this competition and in 2014 we entered the full Beautiful Scotland Competition for the first time, and were rewarded with a silver medal. In 2015 we were awarded silver gilt, and we were delighted that the work of East Lothian Council, which has always supported us, was recognised with a separate sustainability award.
